We were delighted to host pupils from Edendork Primary School (P7) and Bush Primary School (P6) for a site visit to our Creenagh Bridge Replacement and Carriageway Realignment Scheme in Coalisland.
The visit was organised collaboratively by Charles Brand, Department for Infrastructure – Roads, and WSP.
The purpose of the visit was to introduce the children to the objectives of the scheme and inspire early interest in Civil Engineering. During the tour, the team explained how the project will:
• Replace an 80+ year-old structure with a reinforced concrete box culvert
• Deliver a permanent 150m diversion of the River Torrent
• Construct 300m of new carriageway to enhance highway geometry and improve pedestrian facilities
The pupils showed fantastic enthusiasm throughout, engaging in a lively Q&A session with the project team.
To recognise the importance of the scheme to the local community, representatives from each school helped place the final coping stones on the limestone parapet wall over the new culvert – a memorable moment for everyone involved.
A huge thank you to the teachers, pupils, and all partners who contributed to a successful and inspiring visit. 🌟
Encouraging the next generation of engineers begins with experiences like these!
