Good Tidings from the Belfast Tidal Flood Alleviation Team

The Lagan Village Youth and Community Group (LVYCG), based close to Charles Brand’s Belfast Tidal Flood Alleviation Scheme, and provides a lifeline for the local community, particularly at Christmas. We donated £1000 to support the groups Christmas activities which includes a 25 strong special needs drama group, performing in front of 250 guests at their annual Christmas Concert, the development of a Santa’s Grotto and pensioners Christmas lunch.

LVYCG operates inclusive activities to create social, educational, and economic inclusion for the local disadvantaged community of Lower Ravenhill and Woodstock areas. This area has a population of around 2500 people from a range of diverse cultural and social backgrounds, with a high degree of educational under achievement, low incomes, and social welfare dependency. LVYCG delivers programmes appropriate to the needs and wants of local people, creating a sense of belonging to all, enhancing their aspirations and motivations towards achieving a better quality of life.

The aim of the Belfast Tidal Flood Alleviation Scheme is to deliver a scheme of works that will provide a long term approach to tidal flood risk management for Belfast.
